LAUREL "Yoyo" Scheel
What happens when you strand two piratical-minded friends on an island full of unfathomable riches?
The Adventures of Hare and Bear: Good Job, is a mixed-media animated short conjured by the collaborative efforts of Laurel 'Yoyo' Scheel and Andy Carey. The story begins when two friends wash ashore on a strange island. They are welcomed by mysterious magical creatures covered in gems. The creatures lead them to the heart of the forest where they face a choice that will change their lives forever.
Designing the Characters
Hare and Bear's first design pass
Bear was originally going to be a sun bear, the only aspect of that design that made it into the final was Bear's abnormally wide neck.
Hare's ears lost width the more I drew them.
In the second pass I include some of the cut characters. Badger, the mellow sea captain who has a pet sea monster named Seabiscuit; and King Fisher, the tyrannical and greedy king of Hare and Bear's home island. Hare and Bear also get an outfit change that stays to the final design.
Hare and Bear's final design pass includes color, something which took many passes as well. The designs also become much sleeker, as I have now drawn them many, many times.
